We booked this trip at the last minute when the park had a cancellation. I was on a conference call at work the day before when I got the voicemail that there was a spot available. I called back within the hour but found that spot 6 had been taken even though I was first on the wait list. Bummer. Luckily, they called back a few hours later and had another cancellation that we booked immediately, this time at spot 2.
The park is on the north side of Grapevine Lake between two coves, as you would guess by the name. The City of Flower Mound runs it and as I was looking up information on it, I was shocked to see the Apple Maps image of the park (below on the right), it was partially under water. A few years ago, we received so much rain that it flooded much of the park, and they had to replace many of the trees at the site. However, the sites had great access to the lake and our boys took full advantage.
One minor mishap on arriving on Friday to setup, I had mixed up which spot I had reserved. I carefully backed into spot 6 and had just finished leveling the trailer when a lady walked up and said I was in her spot. She and her companion had just shown up as well and were on the phone with Flower Mound confirming their reservation. Sure enough, I was confused but they were nice, and we agreed that at least I wasn't fully setup when they pulled up. I moved over to our correct spot and setup without problem other than I didn't have enough sewer hose. Luckily, Molly was able to stop by Camping World to grab a new 20' hose.
Bryce had a soccer tournament on Friday night, so we ended up not getting to the trailer until after 10 PM on Friday night. Somehow, they were up early the next morning and ready to go. The boys fed the ducks that were hanging out by our site then we got in a short walk down to the boat launch, saw a yeti on the way, and took a hike through the woods that were nearby before Scuba Steve emerged. With the lake so close, it was hard to keep the boys out of the water the rest of the trip.
CC and Papa stopped by for a bit on Saturday afternoon to hang out, as well as Jarrod and Kenzi and their boys who happened to be in town. The boys played in the lake, built a mud dam, and were in or by the water most of the visit. McCall also enjoyed the lake. She hasn't swum that much in years and was completely exhausted by the end of Saturday.
The group was slower to rise on Sunday morning. We all enjoyed some cinnamon rolls and the boys played in the lake as we packed up.
