For Memorial Day weekend this year we decided to head back to a campground we enjoyed a few years ago. The Vineyards is a local campsite that made commuting to Luke's first summer baseball tournament easy. We got one of the shortest spots in the campground, only 38' to squeeze in our 37' trailer. Bryce came with me to help back in and set up on Friday afternoon and I couldn't have done it without him. We had a nice, covered picnic table next to our spot and since we were staying a while we added the lights. Our spot was in a good location though, with a great view of the lake and easy access to the beach and playground. We didn't get to stay up late Friday night though as Luke had two games Saturday morning and we had to be at the fields at 7 AM. Luke played great, including hitting an in-the-park home run helping his team win both games and earning the second overall seed for the single-elimination playoff on Sunday.
We relaxed at the camper Saturday afternoon before heading over to my cousin's house to celebrate her daughter's high school graduation. The kids had a great time playing in the water bounce house and swimming in the pool. For a three-year-old, Reese has no fear of the water and will do whatever her brothers do, including jumping off the diving board. I coordinated to pickup an inflatable kayak from my Uncle at the party, something we had discussed a few months ago while camping with him. The boys were very excited about trying it out the following day.
Sunday morning we were back at the ballpark. Luke's team beat Corinth, Highland Village, and Colleyville to win the championship. The team had put in a lot of hard work and the results showed. That afternoon, we came back to camp and took the kayak down to the beach to let the boys try it out. We stayed there for a few hours, Reese playing in the sand and we did get a little fishing in from the kayak out in the cove. It turned out to be a beautiful night as well. We took McCall out for a little walk down to the water. She's getting up there in age, and we keep saying that this could be our last camping trip with her so why not let her get down to the water and swim if she wanted? I believe she enjoyed it as she pranced a little bit as we walked along the shore. Sadly, the mud was a bit too thick for her to get too far out to swim and Molly almost ate it slipping into the water trying to get her out.
We had a fantastic time again at the Vineyards. It feels like you're out camping, but it is still close if you need to get things at the store or go out for dinner if you don't feel like cooking. I know we'll be back again.
